Albuquerque wind storm bends trees in Northeast Heights

Winds are currently 36 mph sustained, gusting above 50 mph. The trees are bending and whipping. This is not particularly uncommon for a spring day in Albuquerque. What is uncommon is that amount of dust in the air. The sun is still about 15-degrees above the horizon, but has only been intermittently visible. I am only two miles from the base of Sandia Crest (which tops out at 10,678 ft. ASL), but it was invisible a few minutes ago. Our house is very sturdy. It does not shake noticeably in high winds. I did hear gravel moving on the flat roof. That’s a first for us, but this is our first spring in the house. The West Side, the burgeoning area of suburban sprawl across the Rio Grande, is completely obscured. We usually have a hundred mile view from here. Though the house is fairly well sealed up, a super fine layer of dust is accumulating on flat surfaces. My sinuses are telling me I’m breathing the stuff as well. Finally, the air outside is beginning to clear a little. The mountains are back, but the West Side is still missing. It’s not much to look at anyway.
